Mr GREG WARREN (Campbelltown)— I would like to acknowledge Deidre Barry, one of the joint winners of my Seniors Achievement Award for 2025. Deidre is an icon in the community of Mt Gilead Estate and a tireless advocate for and supporter of her peers. Deidre was instrumental in setting up the Carer's Group at Mt Gilead Estate seven years ago. Since its inception, Deidre has held fortnightly meetings, where over 40 participants attend for a fun morning of activities, craft or entertainment. This gives hours of entertainment for those impacted by health issues who would otherwise be confined to their home whilst also providing relief for family members who would generally provide care. Transport is also organised for the members of the group to attend concerts and lunches which brings smiles to all – happiness can be contagious. The carers group was the first of its kind in NSW, but in the last seven years, more and more villages across the state have been establishing similar groups based on the model that Deidre has set. I don't think that anyone would disagree with me when I say that Deidre is a very worthy recipient of the Seniors Achievement Award for 2025.
