Mr GREG WARREN (Campbelltown) (12:39): I am delighted to make a brief contribution to debate on the Children's Guardian and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2026. I acknowledge the Minister for Families and Communities, who is present in the Chamber, and thank her and her team for their work in this very important area. There is no greater priority than protecting our children. The Minister and the Government have worked on this bill with the required diligence to strengthen and improve existing child safeguarding processes by implementing the outstanding statutory review recommendations and consequential changes resulting from legislative reforms passed in 2025. They have also made other changes necessary to ensure the consistency and efficacy of the legislation administered by the Children's Guardian.
I will not go through the content of the bill because my colleagues have already done so, but I make a brief contribution to acknowledge the importance of passing this legislative reform through the Legislative Assembly and the upper House. There are not too many things more important than the protection and guardianship of children. I am sure all of my colleagues in this place know of children in their communities who need protection. I hope the bill passes the Legislative Assembly and then Legislative Council without the shenanigans that have gone on in that place and is assented to as quickly as possible. On that note, I thank the Minister for her diligence on this issue of priority and importance. I commend the bill to the House.
