ANNIVERSARY OF THE APPIN MASSACRE

That this House:

(1) Notes that 17 April marked the anniversary of the Appin Massacre of 1816.

(2) Acknowledges that at least 14 Aboriginal men, women and children, with many other uncounted for, were killed when soldiers shot at and drove a group of Aboriginal people over the gorge of the Cataract River.

(3) Commends the Winga Myamly Reconciliation Group and Sister Kerry MacDermott on organising a memorial at Appin to acknowledge this terrible massacre.
