MORE THAN 1000 NURSES LEFT UNFUNDED BY LIBERAL GOVERNMENT

1,112 nursing positions across NSW, including 109 positions in the Western Sydney region, have been left unfunded beyond the 2024-25 Financial Year by the former Liberal National Government.

The former government funded 1,112 nurses as temporary positions, despite including them in a major announcement to recruit an extra 10,000 healthcare workers in June 2022.

The NSW Health Minister Ryan Park today revealed the full impact of these temporary nursing positions in parliament.

It is one of many fiscal abominations committed by the former government,” Mr Park said."

Over the past couple of months we have uncovered all sorts of fiscal timebombs planted by the previous government.

Of the 1,112 unfunded nurses:

·       138 are in the Hunter New England LHD

·       109 are in the Western Sydney LHD

·       99 are in the Sydney LHD

·       82 are in the Northern Sydney LHD

·       61 are in the Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD

·       56 are in Western NSW LHD

·       51 are in the Northern NSW LHD

·       50 are in the Nepean Blue Mountains LHD

We are investing in our health workers, rolling out safe staffing levels in our hospitals – starting in our emergency departments.

It won’t be easy to undo 12 years of neglect, but the Minns Labor Government is determined to get on with the job for fixing the mess left behind by the Liberal Nationals.
