In a move which will improve pedestrian safety, the school zone along Deans Road, Airds near John Warby Public School will be extended with works taking place from Sunday 8 September 2024.
The improvements come after local representations from the school community to improve safety measures along Deans Road for students and motorists.
Deans Road not only services John Warby Public School, but is also an important connector between Georges River Road and Riverside Drive which leads to the local retail precinct and High School.
Existing school zone signs and road markings on Deans Road, Airds will be extended about 80 metres north of the current location to extend the school zone.
The extended 40km/h school zone will come into effect on Wednesday 11 September, weather permitting, and will operate between 8am and 9.30am, and between 2.30pm and 4pm on normal school days.
While work to extend the zone is being undertaken, road crews will not be active in peak school drop and pick up times. Drivers are requested to follow signage while works are being undertaken.
