Campbelltown Community Update

G'day Campbelltown,

February was a great month with lots of great announcements for our community.

The most major of these was a $55 million, state-of-the-art medical research centre at Campbelltown Hospital.
The Lang Walker AO Medical Research Building is a joint investment between the NSW Government, University of NSW, Western Sydney University, Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research and Walker Corporation and will focus on research in the key areas of diabetes, mental health, indigenous health, paediatrics & child wellbeing and addiction medicine. I was lucky enough to be present at the opening of the Appin Historical Society's new home at 78 Appin Road. If you haven't had a chance to pop your head in and check out their collection I would highly recommend it. The history of the Appin area is fascinating and there aren't many people who know more about it than the team at Appin Historical Society.

This month also marked the first Parliament sitting week of the year. I have provided links to the speeches I made further down in this email. To summarise, there was a focus on bill amendments, including the Constitution Amendment (Executive Council) Bill, Crime and Criminal Procedure Legislation Amendment Bill 2023 and the Detention Legislation Amendment (Prohibition on Spit Hoods) Bill 2023. The topic of the Public Interest Debate was housing affordability, something that is so important in our community and across the state. In Question Time and in Public Members Statements, myself and my colleagues acknowledged the hard work of our school cleaners and school teachers. I also took the chance to pay tribute to Campbelltown local, Thelma Margaret O'Neill who sadly passed.

A big event coming up next month is the TFNSW Bus Forum, hosted by the NSW Bus Taskforce. This forum will be a great opportunity for all members of our community to provide feedback on our bus systems which will be used to make recommendations to the government regarding areas to improve moving forward. The event will be held at Campbelltown RSL between 10am and 12pm on the 15th of March. If you cannot make it to the event in person and still want to provide feedback, you can do so at this link: https://www.haveyoursay.nsw.gov.au/bus-industry-taskforce.
I will continue to post reminders as we get closer to the event, and I encourage everyone who can make it to pop down and have your say.

As always, if you need any assistance with a state government matter please contact my office at campbelltown@parliament.nsw.gov.au or by phone at 46253344.

Cheers,
Greg

Out and About
It's always great to see investment in our Campbelltown community. Alongside Premier Chris Minns, Minister for Health, Ryan Park and Mayor of Campbelltown George Greiss we announced a $55 million state-of-the-art medical research building at Campbelltown Hospital.
A joint investment between the NSW Government, University of NSW, Western Sydney University, Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research and Walker Corporation.
This facility will focus on research in the key areas of diabetes, mental health, indigenous health, paediatrics & child wellbeing and addiction medicine.
The Appin Historical Society are wonderful custodians of so much of Appin's history. I was lucky enough to join Mayor of Wollondilly Shire, Matt Gould and Wollondilly Shire Councillor, Suzy Brandstater to open the society's new residence at 78 Appin Road. A building with a history all of its own, this is the perfect home for the historical society while the council looks to develop a more permanent residence for the group. Thank you to everyone for having me out, and keep up the great work!
There are more than 1000 junior doctors who started work in NSW hospitals in February. I got the chance to meet some of the wonderful staff who will begin their careers at Campbelltown Hospital. Some of these guys were even born in this very hospital! Thank you so much to all of our medical staff for the work you continue to do to support our community.
It was great to get a peek behind the curtain at the Sydney Desalination Plant. This fantastic facility services Campbelltown and much of Sydney. Thanks so much to the team for having me out for a visit!
Footy season is about to kick off and the Macarthur Saints popped out to let me know what they have coming up this year. Thanks to Nathan and Michelle for meeting with me and for your dedication to football in the area. Good luck this year guys!
Great to get a chance to meet Danny Nicholson. A local looking out for his community and doing his best to support our youth. Thanks for meeting with me mate, and for all you do.
It's always great to get a chance to catch up with members of our community to see how I can help out. Thanks to Vicki, Cheryl, Chris, Julie, Vili, Nicole and Pacifique for coming out for a chat!
Our community is filled with so many amazing people and it is a privilege to represent you all.

What's on in Campbelltown?
There is always so much going on in Campbelltown, and I would need another newsletter just to go through it all.

The Campbelltown City Council website has a great range of events listed, from bushwalks, to author talks, writing and art competitions and webinars as well.

These events are a great opportunity to get out and about and connect with the local community and I really encourage everyone to have a look.
Check it Out!
